San Jose's Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan - Mothers Out Front Review Session
Mothers Out Front Silicon Valley would like to invite you to join a Zoom session on Monday, October 20 from - 7-8PM with the City of San José and the non-profit SPUR to learn about the city’s draft Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (CARP) and provide direct feedback for city staff. This is a unique opportunity to play a role in the city’s planning efforts, offering input at a critical stage in the CARP’s development. After a short presentation from the City and SPUR, participants will have the chance to ask questions and offer feedback and insights into the plan’s refinementdevelopment and implementation.
Why is this important? San José is developing a Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (CARP) to reduce the impact of climate threats like wildfires, flooding, sea level rise, drought, and extreme heat, with particular focus on protecting vulnerable communities disproportionately affected by climate change. The plan will complement the city's existing Climate Smart San José mitigation strategy by focusing on adaptation—adjusting how our community lives and operates infrastructure to minimize climate risks—rather than just reducing emissions. Funded by a state grant in June 2023, the CARP is expected to be completed by late 2025, after a public review period through October 26th.
Why are we needed? Who cares more about climate safety than parents, whose number one job is to protect our children? During this special review session for Mothers Out Front and allies, participants are encouraged to offer their perspectives on the plan and identify opportunities for the City to work with San Jose communities to strengthen implementation of adaptation and resilience measures.
