Lithuania’s Biotech Momentum: Innovation, Scale-ups and Investment Opportunities

Lithuania is emerging as one of Europe’s most dynamic biotechnology and life sciences hubs, with a rapidly growing ecosystem of start-ups, scale-ups, research talent and investment opportunities. This evening event will introduce the Lithuanian biotech and start-up ecosystem to the Berlin business, innovation and life sciences community.

Hosted by Mr. Edvinas Grikšas, Minister of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, the event will bring together Lithuanian biotech leaders, start-up founders and investors for a panel discussion on how Europe can safeguard and strengthen its biotechnology competitiveness in the long term.

The discussion will highlight Lithuania’s fast-growing biotech sector, which has been expanding by around 25% annually, and explore why the country has become an attractive location for innovation-driven companies and investors. Many of today’s most promising Lithuanian biotech players started as research-driven start-ups and have since developed into internationally visible companies.

Lithuania’s biotech ecosystem already includes strong examples across several high-value fields: Caszyme, working with CRISPR-Cas gene-editing technologies; Biomatter, developing AI-enabled tools for protein design and synthetic biology; Droplet Genomics, advancing microfluidics and high-throughput biological research tools; Atrandi Biosciences, developing next-generation single-cell analysis technologies; Genomika, working on DNA-based data storage; and Vugene, representing Lithuania’s new generation of biotech innovators. These companies demonstrate the breadth of Lithuania’s capabilities — from gene editing and protein engineering to single-cell technologies, diagnostics, synthetic biology and digital biotech.
