About Event

✨ What if losing the ability to speak didn’t mean losing your voice?

Join Dr. David Brandman, Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at UC Davis and Co-Director of the UC Davis Neuroprosthetics Lab with Sergey Stavisky, for a look at how brain-computer interfaces are transforming communication for people living with ALS.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) record neural activity directly from the brain and translate it into actions—like moving a cursor, generating text, or even producing speech. Dr. Brandman will explore how these systems are being developed to restore communication for people with paralysis, turning intention into language in real time.

Drawing on his clinical work as an epilepsy surgeon and his leadership in cutting-edge clinical trials, including BrainGate2 and Connect-One, he’ll share how neuroscience, engineering, and medicine are converging to rebuild one of our most fundamental human abilities: the power to connect through speech.

Dr. Brandman’s work has been featured in outlets like The New York Times, Scientific American, and the BBC, and he was recently named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in health.

Expect mind-expanding science, real-world impact, and a glimpse into a future where thought itself can become communication. 🧠✨
