Is Merch Dead? Going beyond slogans on t-shirts to create lasting messages
A Social Capital Comms & Marketing Workshop
16 April 2026 | 18:30-21:00
@Psyché, Rue de Namur 35, 1000 Brussels
⚡️ Whether you're launching a product, lobbying for a cause, or building a brand from scratch - this event is for you.
Join us for a drink and discussion about the political side of fashion, why fast merch is out of fashion, and alternatives that you can explore no matter how big or small your budget is.
Do you know what your merch is really saying? We think it is time to finally find out.
Slogan t-shirts, branded tote bags, and hats with logos are everywhere around Brussels - and in the landfills. This category of clothing is one of the most found ones in the donation centres and landfills around the world. Worn for a single campaign and then trashed forever is probably not the message you really want to go for.
But, clothing are still a powerful communication tool, perhaps more than ever. So don't throw away your merch ideas just yet. Instead, come and rethink clothing with us!

This workshop is animated by our member Tena Lavrenčić, a fashion activist, public speaker, and a comms professional at the EU Joint Research Centre, based in Brussels.
She has been talking about workers rights in the garment industry, fashion overconsumption, slow fashion alternatives, and more since 2020, when she started her platform Thinking Threads. She regularly holds debates and talks, and collaborates with organiations like Fashion Revolution and Clean Clothes Campaign.
