Across cultures, people have always drawn symbols to protect what matters to them.
In Daoist traditions, these symbols are called Fulu (符箓) — talismans believed to carry spiritual authority and intention. Part writing, part drawing, they form a mysterious visual language used for protection, healing, or blessing.
The phrase “ghost scribbles” (鬼画符) is often used jokingly to describe messy handwriting.
But behind the joke is an older belief: that mysterious lines may carry hidden power.

In this 2–3 hour workshop, we’ll explore the visual language and cultural background of talismans, along with parallel practices like sigils and protective symbols.
At the same time, we want to be clear:
This is not a formal or traditional study.
We respect where these traditions come from, but we approach them as artists — through curiosity, intuition, and personal interpretation.
And as always, we like to twist things a little.

What We’ll Do
We’ll look at basic talisman structures, then create our own through a series of playful exercises:
✧ Glow Station — fluorescent ink on black paper + a lights-off reveal
✧ Invisible Intent — wax + watercolor, where the image slowly appears
✧ Collaborative Scroll — a shared, growing community talisman

By the end, you’ll create your own personal talisman —
a drawing holding your wishes for protection, courage, creativity, or peace.
Think of it as designing your own blessing.
No drawing experience needed.

那些神秘的线条，或许本身就具有力量。
