About Event

Responsible AI isn’t just about abstract principles; it’s about how ideas like fairness, privacy, transparency, and accountability show up in real systems, institutions, and human–AI relationships. This final workshop explores Responsible AI through three complementary tracks, each led with facilitator ownership and designed to go deeper into practice, critique, and application.

AI Governance & Policy. This track focuses on how Responsible AI principles are embedded into governance, regulation, and institutional decision-making. We’ll take a closer look at the Canadian AI governance landscape, key standards and policy frameworks shaping AI development and deployment, and critically examine the gaps, limitations, and unresolved tensions that remain in current governance approaches.

Human-Centered & Responsible AI Applications. This track explores Responsible AI through a human-centered lens, drawing on HCI, participatory design, and computational techniques to understand how fairness, transparency, and privacy are defined by lived experience. Grounded in social impact and child welfare research, participants will engage with real-world case studies and, optionally, a short hands-on component using NLP and topic modeling to extract narrative trends and surface perspectives that inform responsible system design.

Alignment & Human–AI Dynamics. This track introduces foundational questions in AI alignment and examines the evolving dynamics between humans and AI systems. We’ll explore core alignment challenges, technical and philosophical approaches to addressing them, and perspectives from the philosophy of technology on mutual human–AI transformation and long-term implications of aligned systems.
