Recoding Medicine: Stockholm Matchmaking Afternoon
Health dataset holders meet AI research teams — for SPRIND's Recoding Medicine Challenge.
Europe holds some of the most valuable biomedical data in the world, and most of it never reaches the research teams who could use it. Not because the science is hard. Because the two sides don't know each other exists, and because the route from "we have this data" to "you can work with this data" runs through legal and organisational questions nobody has an incentive to answer first.
The Nordics are the interesting exception: decades of population-scale health registries, linked records, and a research culture that already knows how to use them. Which makes Stockholm a good place to ask what the rest of Europe is getting wrong?
This is three hours to close that gap in one room. This is hosted by Vinnova, Foresight Institute and SPRIND. Foresight Institute is a San Francisco based indie non-profit founded in 1986. is SPRIND is Germany's federal agency for breakthrough innovation, backing the moonshots too risky for anyone else to fund.
What happens
15:00 — Arrive. Welcome fika - coffee, tea and bites. You'll get a badge, so people can find you.
15:40 — Short intros, about 30 minutes total. Foresight on why we're convening this and on the matchmaking. SPRIND on how their challenge model works. Vinnova on their work and aims.
16:10 — Open mic. Thirty minutes, the floor is yours. One to three minutes each: what you hold, what you're looking for, who you want to talk to.
16:40 — Matching and networking, until 18:00. The rest of the time is yours to actually have the conversations. You'll get to know who's in the room and who's worth an introduction.
Who should be there
Startups & Researchers. Academic groups, startups, and independent researchers (AI & ML) who want real biomedical data to test ideas on.
Data holders. Hospitals, biobanks, research institutes, registries, patient groups, and companies holding biomedical or health data. Your data doesn't need to be clean or ready to go.
Experts. Clinicians, epidemiologists, biologists, and biomedical researchers who can say whether a proposed match actually makes scientific sense.
Governance & legal. People who work on data protection, access agreements, and research ethics. Most of what stops a dataset from reaching a research team is legal, not technical.
