Activate Altadena: Golden Poppy Celebration
About the event
Activate Altadena is a morning of community celebration and civic engagement, co-hosted by the Altadena Bicycle Club, Lotus Rising LA and Altadena CoLab, in partnership with Altadena Heritage.
The day centers on Altadena Heritage's beloved Golden Poppy Awards, which recognize the community's most beautifully tended gardens and the neighbors who care for them. We're taking that celebration outside — onto the streets, sidewalks, and transit routes of Altadena — with a guided bike ride through nominated and winning properties, a walking demonstration, a transit tour, and a set of activations focused on environment, mobility, and connection.
This is also a planning and education tool. Participant feedback from the ride, walk, and visioning exercises will directly inform the Altadena Town Trail & Greenway Initiative, a community-driven effort to reconnect Altadena through a multimodal trail network as the community rebuilds after the 2025 Eaton Fire.
Come for the gardens. Stay for the conversation. Help shape what Altadena becomes.

The Golden Poppy Bike Ride and lunch require sign-up so we can plan for the right number of participants. Everything else is drop-in. Come when you can, stay as long as you like.

There is limited seating on site. We encourage you to bring your own chair or blanket if you plan to picnic with us.
At 4:00pm we will move the party to Austin's Rails To Trails Mural Unveiling! Come support the official unveiling of the largest Mural in Altadena, located on the Altadena Crest Trail, East of Canon Blvd. We will be there from 4-6.

About the Altadena Town Trail & Greenway Initiative
The Altadena Town Trail & Greenway Initiative is a community-driven effort to plan and build a connected multi-modal trail network through Altadena, linking neighborhoods to parks & open spaces, schools, transit, local businesses, and the foothills of the Angeles National Forest. Activate Altadena is one of a series of community engagement events designed to ground the trail in the knowledge and priorities of the people who live here.
