Decoupage Rice Paper Lampshades
Join us in the studio for an evening of customizing rice paper lampshades with paper cut collage and decoupage!
Decoupage: the art of decorating an object by gluing paper cutouts onto a surface and sealing it with multiple layers of varnish or lacquer. The word comes from the French term découper, meaning "to cut out".
Together, we'll snip colorful shapes and motifs from tissue paper to adorn your own paper lampshade, tuning them into whimsical, one-of-a-kind art objects. Check out this Pinterest board for things that are possible! It will be colorful and meditative and sooo very crafty.
All materials provided, including the 17x17in paper lampshade base.
It will be a perfect, meditative evening of crafting in community <3
Please note: This is not a rice paper lantern building workshop— you will be provided with a lantern to customize. Additionally, you will need to purchase a lightbulb & cord separately! We're happy to provide guidance<3

What can I expect from a project at RecCreate?
Projects are the perfect chance to finally make that thing you saved on tiktok or pinned months ago, where all you have to do is show up! We curate the coolest materials and walk you through it step by step. Naturally, you leave with the sickest me-made piece for yourself or as the sweetest gift. Projects are a great opportunity to try out a new craft without having to invest in all of the materials, alongside other creative humans. These are not highly technical workshops— our emphasis is on craft, self expression and creative empowerment.
As with all RecCreate events, you can expect to go on this journey with a room full of lovely strangers. We’ll offer opportunities for connection throughout our time— encouraging the spirit of the collective. It is (so) much more fun to get to create together.
Getting Here
The venue is a ~hidden~ art studio located at 20 Grand ave in brooklyn on the 6th floor of a commercial building! When you arrive, buzz #604, push to open and take the elevator up to 6 (push the elevator button until it turns red.!!) Take a right out of the elevator, and a left at the end of the hallway. The door will be the first one on your right.
Cancelation Policy
Unfortunately for this event tickets are non-refundable/exchange-able! Please double check your calendar. In the event you are no longer able to make it, you are welcome to give your ticket to a friend or swap it on our ticket swap board. Just tell them to use your name!

Age Restriction & Dogs
All guests must be 18+ to attend and though we love your pups, unfortunately cannot have them in the studio!
