Spring-a-ling: Let's OCAD together
(This event is part of Spring-a-ling: a curated festival of DIY 3rd space events across the GTA. To check out more, visit the Happy Town Luma calendar.)
OCAD University’s 111th Annual Graduate Exhibition is back - Let's check out some art from some local emerging artists :)
"The OCAD gradex is always a highlight of my year" - Chris' friend.
Hi all! I run brisk, curated tours of the OCAD's totally free gradex every year for my friends, and figured folks who enjoy walking might like a tour as well! There are always surprising artworks each year.
We'll gather in The Grange (109 McCaul) and fuel up with a snack from 5:30-6:00pm, then cross the street to 100 McCaul and trek our way up the building til 8:00pm!
Every department is great, but I have noticed some 'crowd favourites' and have a main route in mind:
1st & 2nd Floors: sculpture → the great hall → experimental animation* → material arts (~30 minutes)
3rd & 4th Floors: → integrated media → the print shop → painting (~40-50 minutes)
5th Floor: → illustration (~40 minutes)
Note: This route involves avoiding the (very slow) elevators, which means a fair amount of stairs! Apologies in advance for any inconvenience.
*on the quick tour, we'll only have time to take a peek at the auditorium. But for anyone who has the time, the experimental animations are always quite fun and neat (100 McCaul, Rm 230). I recommend catching the ~1hr reel if you can, or circling back there for comfy seating whenever you like during the tour.
That's it! Hope to see you there!
