Mandela Day Langtafel on Bree
Mandela Day Langtafel on Bree
One street. One table. One nation breaking bread together.
This Mandela Day on the 18th of July, Community Chest, Young Urbanists NPC, Mission for Inner City Cape Town, and Studio H will transform Bree Street into the Mandela Day Langtafel on Bree, a public long table where Cape Town can sit down and share a meal together from Wale to Strand St and parts of Shortmarket.
The event is free and open to everyone.
The idea is simple. We want people from across the city to share the same street, the same table, and the same Mandela Day meal.
For those who cannot afford food, meals will be curated by Studio H with Community Chest and partners. You can also buy the theme dish from participating local restaurants, or bring your own food to the table.
Free bread will be shared with everyone, with a surprise dessert on the day.
The Langtafel is about bringing Cape Town together in the heart of the city. It is a public act of dignity, generosity, reconciliation and community.
The usual Bree Street Sundays open street will also run on the day, with walking, cycling, family-friendly public space, local restaurants, and public life along the street. More details will be shared soon.
Date: 18 July*
Time: 12:00 to 17:00
Location: Bree Street, Cape Town CBD
*Please note the day is weather dependent.
Public transport will be available on the day, including PRASA and MyCiTi services.
