Mandela Day Langtafel moves to Riebeeck Square
One square. One table. One city breaking bread together.
This Mandela Day, Community Chest, Young Urbanists NPC, Mission for Inner City Cape Town and Studio H will bring the Mandela Day Langtafel to Riebeeck Square, just off Bree Street.
The event is free and open to everyone.
The idea is simple. We want people from across Cape Town to sit around the same table, share a meal, meet one another and celebrate Mandela Day together.
Guests can bring their own food or buy a meal from one of the participating restaurants along Bree Street and around Riebeeck Square, then bring it to the table.
Complimentary bread from @suurbakery and koeksisters from some of Cape Town’s favourite aunties will be shared as we come together in the spirit of Madiba.
Participating restaurants include Iron Steak, Nikkei, Tannin, Nish Nush, Burger & Lobster, Yatai, Maru, Scala, Clarke’s, Stellski, Hacienda, House of Machines, Max Bagels, Rosetta and Bare.
Several PAN Group restaurants have also prepared special dishes and offers for the day. These can be purchased directly from the restaurants before joining the table.
Rosetta will host 67 Minutes for Community from 10:00 to 11:07. During this time, 100% of all coffee beverage sales will be donated to Community Chest.
The Langtafel is about bringing Cape Town together through food, public space and shared time. It is a public act of dignity, generosity, reconciliation and community.
Alcohol may only be served and consumed inside licensed restaurants. Alcohol may not be served or consumed in Riebeeck Square or on Bree Street.
Volunteer spaces for the Langtafel are now full, but you can still join the Green Squad here.

Please note that the day is weather dependent.
Public transport is available through @metrorailwc and @mycitibus. Parking is available on Buitengracht Street. We also encourage guests to walk, cycle or use an e-hailing service.
