ARTIFICIAL UNDERSTANDING
Artificial Understanding: What AI changes about Truth, Trust and Agency
The first edition of THE NEXT DECADE: A Vienna Salon for Artificial Understanding
What does it mean to understand in an age of artificial intelligence?
This first edition of The Next Decade launches a new salon format in Vienna dedicated to AI as more than a technological or economic phenomenon. Rather than treating artificial intelligence only through the lenses of productivity, startups or regulation, the salon opens a space for deeper interdisciplinary conversation — philosophical, scientific, artistic and practical at once.
At the center of the evening are concepts that are becoming newly urgent: understanding, trust, consciousness, belief, consensus, truth and agency. These ideas will not be discussed in the abstract. We will explore them in relation to the current state of AI — from large language models and agentic workflows to automation, interfaces, organizational practice and the different ways AI is interpreted across the US, Europe and Asia.
The evening will feature three short impulse talks by invited speakers, followed by an open salon-style conversation with the audience.
This is not a classic panel and not a startup event. It is a curated space for thinking together — a setting where different perspectives can meet without being forced into quick consensus. The goal is not to arrive at ready-made answers, but to ask better questions, sharpen our concepts and create new shared perspectives.
Expect an evening of thoughtful impulses, honest dialogue and collective exploration around what AI is doing to our ideas of knowledge, meaning, trust and human agency.
Drinks and snacks will be served.
The event will be in English.
This is an invite-only event. Attendance is limited to preserve the salon’s intimate character and ensure a thoughtful, high-quality exchange among participants.
