Office Hours #11 – How to Choose the Right Metadata Engine for JuiceFS
Choosing the right metadata engine when deploying JuiceFS is one of the most critical (and sometimes confusing) decisions. In JuiceFS, file data is stored in object storage, while metadata is managed by a separate metadata engine.
With support for Redis, TiKV, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, and many more, each engine has different trade-offs in performance, scalability, consistency, durability, and operational complexity. Metadata engine selection is therefore less about finding a universally "best" option and more about matching the engine to the workload, scale, and operational requirements of each deployment.
In this session, we will demystify JuiceFS metadata engines and provide a practical framework for matching them to your real-world workloads.
