Consumer Series A in 2026: What Actually Changed (and What Didn't)
Consumer Series A deal count has fallen nearly 50% versus two years ago, and the median time from seed to Series A for consumer startups has stretched to roughly 3 years — almost double what it was in 2022.
Yet valuations for the rounds that do get done keep climbing, and based on Metal's Datadesk, Series A remains the hardest gate in venture: only 17% of seed-funded startups make it there, and just ~20% of companies that run a Series A process close the round.
So has consumer fallen out of favour — or has the bar simply moved? In this session, we go deeper into how fundraising has and hasn't changed for consumer startups at Series A, and what founders raising in 2026 should do differently.
We focus on the questions that matter most:
What Changed — Why fewer consumer rounds are getting done, how AI has raised the traction bar, what investors now need to see before a term sheet, and why "consumer is dead" is the wrong read of the data;
What Didn't — The fundamentals that still decide consumer rounds: brand, retention, obsession-level engagement, and the signals that separate a category-definer from a nice product;
The Playbook — How consumer founders should sequence their raise in this market: timeline expectations, investor targeting, and building momentum when processes run long.
There'll be time for Q&A at the end for consumer founders who want an honest read on where they stand.
