About Event

ISCB-SC RSG-Nigeria is excited to kick off our August ISCB RSG-Nigeria, in collaboration with Stanford Deep Data Research Center, invites students, early-career researchers, and enthusiasts across the life sciences and computational fields to an engaging webinar exploring the evolving landscape of bioinformatics education.

The session will feature Dr. Amir Bahmani, whose work at Stanford Data Ocean focuses on advancing data-driven approaches to biological research and education.

As artificial intelligence, data science and computational technologies continue to transform biological research, this webinar will explore how these innovations are also shaping the way we learn, teach and develop skills in bioinformatics.

Speaker:

Dr. Amir Bahmani

Director of Stanford’s Deep Data Research Center

Dr. Amir Bahmani is a Genetics Instructor at the Stanford School of Medicine and Director of Stanford's Deep Data Research Center. He has worked on distributed and parallel computing since 2008, and contributes to the VA Million Veteran Program, the Human Tumor Atlas Network, HuBMAP and Bridge2AI.

His team built the MyPHD platform, which now hosts more than 37 studies with over 12,000 participants, and Stanford Data Ocean, the first serverless multi-omics and wearables platform designed for teaching and training.

He received Stanford's 2024 Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2023 Terman Mentorship Award. He also created a scholarship that delivers his course and Genetics certificates free of charge to more than 4,500 students from under-resourced backgrounds across 104 countries.
