Build Your Own Community Assembly
How can we bring citizens’ voices into local decision-making?
This interactive session mirrors the structure of a real community assembly — moving from learning → deliberation → action — to show how community assemblies empower people to lead change from the ground up.
Through stories, visuals, and hands-on collaboration, participants will:
Discover what community assemblies are and how they connect local action to global impact.
Hear real stories from ongoing pilot assemblies facilitated by Lucas and others.
Design their own community assemblies in small groups using guided prompts.
By the end, everyone will leave with one concrete step to bring assemblies to life in their own communities.
Speakers:
Lucas Veloso – Community Assembly Manager, facilitating assemblies worldwide.
Caue Bueno – Community Assembly Facilitator, working directly with local assemblies in Brazil to translate citizen voices into action.
Silvia Cervellini – Co-founder and Director of Delibera ; Co-author of What is Public Opinion and multiple academic articles on citizens’ assemblies and democratic innovation in Brazil.
Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh, FRSC – Senator William McMaster Chair in Global Human Rights; Expert-Rapporteur, United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development (UN-OHCHR); Project Director, Participedia.
