Don't Quit Your Day Job #5 (A Silly Goofy Writing Series)
Writing events are mostly too serious, so I'm hosting one that feels like a Japanese game show.
We'll be "method writing":
1) You'll get to choose a slate of characters with light backstories: think "Instagram model before she gets flown out to Dubai" or "Rat trapped in the Cheesecake Factory".
2) We each spend ~1hr writing in any form: poetry, fiction, personal essay, blog post, rap. The twist is that you have to write about or as though you * are * the character you chose. The character themselves are the writing prompt.
3) We wrap up with small reading groups where you can share your writing / get to meet 3-4 people
4) We then vote on a single winner in the GAME SHOW FINALS, who then goes home with everyone's ticket fee.
Even if you're not a writer, the real muscle we're working on here is creativity: can you come up with a novel concept in the constraints you've been given? I genuinely think that's the most important skill you can work on as an artist, irrespective of what your medium is.
It'll be stupid. You should come.
