Alter Magazine #5 Launch
About Alter:
Alter Magazine is a monthly journal bringing to the world new literary writing on Science, Technology, and Progress, from South Asia.
With every story, we aim to alter our readers' views & perceptions, bringing to them contemporary geniuses, cutting-edge ideas, and pathbreaking discoveries. This is a living journal documenting the dreams and dilemmas shaping South Asia's aspirations for progress, capturing the region's diverse energies as it seeks not just advancement for itself, but to help write the next chapter of collective human progress.
About the event:
Alter #5 begins with a ₹10 cup of Arun vanilla ice cream and a question nobody thinks to ask: why does Indian ice cream always give up so soon?
An ice cream tub travels through factories, freezers, petti kadas, and bike rides before it reaches you — and at every step, heat finds a way in.
We dive into the strange, sometimes accidental science being used to make ice creams last longer. We’re unpacking the history of ice cream, it’s legacy from Mughal kitchens, to Turkish street corners and the sheer ingenuity behind a product loved everywhere, and designed for nowhere in particular.
This is an ode to the ice cream masquerading as an event. Because sometimes it's worth pausing to reflect on the things we take for granted, and nothing cools the moral soul quite like ice cream.
