Art Walk Tour 8: Mitte South – Charlottenstraße and Leipziger Straße (EN)
The walk opens at Konrad Fischer Galerie, housed in a former substation, with works by Daniel Buren, whose characteristic striped motifs structure the space and render its architecture perceptible in new ways. Along Leipziger Straße, the tour continues at the young gallery Sweetwater, where Hanna Stiegeler shows photographs centred on space, surfaces, and the textures of everyday life. Just around the corner, in a residential building, KLEMM’S offers an overview of two decades of work by Juan Pablo Echeverri, bringing together photographs and videos in serial formats. Moving between parody and social observation, they articulate a nuanced perspective on individual and collective roles. A short walk further, Buchmann Galerie and the Buchmann Box come into view. Large-scale paintings and watercolours by Bernd Koberling are presented here, defined by intense colour and gestural abstraction, while the watercolours unfold in a quieter, almost meditative register. In the Buchmann Box, reduced metal sculptures by Bettina Pousttchi enter into dialogue with dense, corporeal paintings by Clare Woods. The final stop is Galerie Thomas Schulte, where Walid Raad presents two expansive installations that interweave interior and exterior space. Fragmented images, texts, and objects—along with an overturned Volkswagen Beetle—circle around memory, history, and the lasting effects of conflict. Paintings by Jonathan Lasker are also on view, in which abstract forms range from simple linear structures to thickly applied layers of paint, reconfiguring the relationship between foreground and background.
