This workshop #20 in a series of 30+ weekly sessions.

Agenda:

Physical climate risks are unavoidable. Some of them occur frequently: once every 5, 10, 20 years. Major extreme weather events, on the other hand, happen only once in 100, 200, or even 500 years. These rare extremes fall into the category of “catastrophic” perils, also called "NatCat" ("CatNat").

Regardless of the weather, companies need to make decisions every day about their investments and priorities.

Asset management, strategic business decisions, and corporate financial planning require risk-management solutions aligned with the decision horizon, 1 to 10 years ahead, not 100-500 years.

Typical bank loans for real estate developers, businesses and farmers also fall within this range, generally between 1 and 5 years.

The issue is that traditional NatCat "insurance" does not address any of these frequent climate risks that happen once in 5, 10, 20 years. The standard insurance policies cover only extremely rare catastrophic (NatCat) events.

During this workshop we will explain the concept of financial hedging for frequent (non-catastrophic) climate-, nature- and weather-related risks and review the examples fo such financial solutions for different economic sectors & types of assets.

Important : unavoidable flood, rainfall, drought or storm does not mean unavoidable financial loss.

In this live session, we will :

  • explain which types of climate-related losses can be covered with financial hedging;

  • discuss climate- and weather-related parametric insurance: what is it? and for whom?

  • show real examples for:

    • argiculture,

    • manufacturing & mining,

    • transportation & logistics,

    • tourism.

Risk Assessment - definitions & methodology specifics:

  • Explain the difference between NatCat (standard) and parametric (tailored) insurance;

  • Showcase relevant critical thresholds for different use cases

  • Explain the difference between:

    • insurance for physical damage, and

    • insurance for business losses.

  • Advantages of parametric insurance relative to other types of insurance

Insurance approach to financial modeling offers a practical and clear framework which is actually fully aligned with ESG compliance and corporate due diligence.

Format: a one-hour interactive online workshop with dynamic discussions and answers to your questions. Microphones on, cameras on, and NO recordings. Don’t miss the opportunity to ask questions and discuss them with your peers!
