Catherine Coady – Breathe Deeply | Vernissage

​Für alles gibt es eine Pille. So versprach es die Werbung der Siebziger- und Achtzigerjahre, mit der Catherine Coady aufwuchs. Die australische Künstlerin nimmt dieses Versprechen wörtlich, bis es kippt: in übergroßen, makellos lackierten Pillen-Skulpturen und in Fotografien von Morph, ihrem gesichtslosen Alter Ego im grauen Ganzkörperanzug.

​Breathe Deeply ist Coadys erste Einzelausstellung in Berlin, kuratiert von Dominika Kuthová. Eine Ausstellung über Selbstoptimierung und Kontrollverlust, mit mehr Witz, als das Thema vermuten lässt.

​There’s a pill for everything. At least that’s what the advertising of the 1970s and 1980s promised, the world Catherine Coady grew up in. The Australian artist takes that promise literally, until it tips over: in oversized, flawlessly lacquered pill sculptures and in photographs of Morph, her faceless alter ego in a grey full-body suit.

​Breathe Deeply is Coady’s first solo exhibition in Berlin, curated by Dominika Kuthová. An exhibition about self-improvement and losing control, with more wit than the subject might suggest.
