Munich Tech Sauna Special: Seebad Starnberg Re-Opening
After years of major renovation, Seebad Starnberg is finally open again. We're really happy to be back, because it was one of our favourite places to meet back when Munich Tech Sauna was just getting started. It's a great public sauna with direct access to Lake Starnberg, so you can cool off with a proper lake dip between rounds.
Getting there
Take the S6 to Starnberg, then walk about 15 minutes along the lakeshore. You can also drive, or ask in Discord to find a carpool from Munich.
Finding us
We meet right inside the sauna. Look for Munich Tech Sauna merch, our logo or our flag, and people chatting about tech, then just join in. Phones aren't allowed in the sauna area, so leave yours in your locker. Post any questions on Discord or Luma before you arrive.
What to bring
Slippers
2–3 towels (one large one to sit or lie on)
A water bottle
Bonus points for a classic sauna hat. It keeps your head cool and your style hot.
Sauna etiquette 101
Textile-free: German saunas are nude-only. In the lounge areas you usually wear just a towel, not a swimsuit.
Slippers stay outside: Leave them at the door before you go into the sauna.
Towel on the bench: No part of your body should touch the wood, including your feet. Use a large towel to sit on and rest your feet on, and bring a second one if you'd like to cover up.
Quiet during Aufguss: Soft chatting is fine while you wait for the sauna master. Once the Aufguss starts, stay silent.
Don't be late for Aufguss: Never open the closed door once it has started, because that lets the heat out for everyone. Wait for the next round.
Shower before cold water: After a round, take a minute to calm down, then shower before using the plunge pool or the lake.
Warm foot bath: After cooling down, a warm foot bath helps. The warm water opens your blood vessels, so you relax faster.
FAQ
How much does it cost?
Just buy a regular 4-hour sauna ticket at the entrance. That's your only cost for the event.
I'll arrive a bit later. Is that okay?
Of course. The group will already be there. Look for our logo, and post in Discord when you're on your way so we can help you find us.
Will there be talks or presentations?
No. This is a digital detox meetup. We hang out, relax, talk about anything (not just tech), and maybe enjoy a beer or two.
Why a sauna?
It's inspired by Finnish culture, where people relax and connect in the warmth of the sauna after work. It turns out to be a great place for real conversations.
I'm not in tech. Can I still join?
Absolutely. Everyone is welcome: techies, creatives, students, founders, and anyone curious to meet new people in a relaxed setting.
