​​This session will address one of Africa’s most pressing challenges: the prohibitively high cost of financing climate-aligned projects. We will explore the underlying drivers—including sovereign credit risk, currency mismatches, policy uncertainty, and limited project preparation capacity—while also examining the implications of declining concessional aid on viability-gap financing.

​​Through insights from leading financial institutions, regulators, investors, and development partners, the discussion will highlight African-led solutions and recent innovations such as improved risk rating methodologies, enhanced climate data standardisation, pooled investment vehicles, and blended finance structures that mobilise commercial capital more predictably.
