About Event

Gentle Sewing for Grieving People is suitable for all levels, from absolute beginners to very experienced sewists.

All materials provided.

Using small lengths of calico and 3 inch embroidery hoops, we’ll try out a few stitches and ideas for a couple of hours. You don't need to talk about your grief if you don't want to, just know that there is a gentle space for you, here with others, to sit and sew (we'll show you how!) and to grab a cuppa or a coffee if you'd like.

The term “grief” or “grieving” is often applied to the experience of loss through the death of someone we knew, and we recognise that this is a very simple definition.

Grief comes in many forms. You are very welcome to attend, whatever form of grief you are experiencing, be this bereavement, anticipatory grief, ancestral grief, or other forms of loss. You are welcome to talk about your grief if you want, though we ask that you respect the privacy and boundaries of others in the group by not asking them questions about their grief, or discussing other people's grief outside the group.

Please note, we are not qualified therapists, and the event is not a therapy group. This is an opportunity to experience the potentially therapeutic effects of crafting/sewing in a peer-led space with others over a cuppa.

There will be sewing needles, scissors and hot drinks around, so this workshop isn’t suitable for kids. However, please let us know if you’d like us to organise a sewing event where you can bring your child or children.
