Like A Wave We Break:

On paper, Jane Chen was the embodiment of success. A Harvard and Stanford graduate, she was the CEO and co-founder of a company that developed a groundbreaking incubator that has now saved over a million newborns in the world's most vulnerable communities. She was recognized by President Obama, funded by Beyoncé, and featured in media around the world. Yet underneath it all, she was burning out--consumed by self-doubt and the relentless need to prove herself, shaped by wounds that formed long before her career began.

When Embrace nearly collapsed after a decade, Jane lost more than a dream; she lost the identity she had built her life around. Feeling utterly broken, she set off on a global quest for healing. She sat in silence for days in the Indonesian jungle. She sought wisdom from world-renowned healers and therapists. She burned holes into her leg for a frog poisoning ceremony. She dove headfirst into every form of self-help, from the spiritual to the psychedelic, from the cultish to the comical, only to find herself face-to-face with the one thing she had spent a lifetime outrunning: the trauma of her upbringing. In the end, Jane discovered who she was beyond her purpose, achievements, or external measures of success—and ultimately learned to embrace herself.

Vicky Tsai says, "Jane gives voice to what so many in the AAPI community have silently carried. Raw, honest, and cathartic, this memoir offers a path toward healing.”

Adam Grant (#1 NYT Best-Selling Author, Think Again) calls it “a powerful memoir about facing fears and bouncing forward after trauma."

Bessel van der Kolk (#1 NYT Best-Selling Author, Body Keeps the Score) describes it as a "brilliant and gripping book about how resilience...can transform adversity into hope and inspiration around the world.”

Marc Benioff (CEO & Chairman Salesforce) says "Jane's message about the disconnect between external success and inner fulfillment has never been more timely. This book is a must-read for anyone who aspires to create meaningful change--because that journey begins with knowing yourself deeply."
