About Event

Tokyo, to NYC, to Berlin, to Newburgh: On Saturday, March 14th, artist MOTOMICHI will turn the side of 26 S William St into a living canvas. Made possible by Awesome Newburgh, and in collaboration with NYC gallery NowHere, we're bringing Japanese-born, Parsons-trained projection artist Motomichi Nakamura to Newburgh for a pop-up outdoor projection experience, it’s completely free and open to all.

MOTOMICHI's bold, animated works have lit up the New Museum, the MTA's Fulton Center, and major festivals around the world. Now they're coming to our blocks, because world-class art belongs here too. For this event, MOTOMICHI has created a new animation designed specifically for this site, a one-of-a-kind work made for this building, this corner, this community.

The projections are wordless, graphic, and joyful. No art-world knowledge required. Just show up and enjoy the show! Kids, teens, adults, all welcome.

Arrive early. During setup, from around 6:45PM, MOTOMICHI will offer a live walk-through for anyone curious about digital art and projection, a rare chance to learn directly from the artist about what goes into making the work.

Our goal is simple: a free light event that makes you proud of your city, sparks a conversation on the sidewalk, and opens the door to more creative collaboration between Newburgh artists, residents, and visiting creatives.

See you on the corner. 🌆

A free, family-friendly public art event
