About Event

Have you ever felt like communicating when stress is running high is like speaking two different languages? Connecting with people, especially young people, during emotionally charged times is always difficult. In this session, Helen Jarvis shows how to use the best body language, emotional presence, and verbal cues in order to allow both parties to understand and feel understood.

You will:

  • Increase your understanding of the neurobiology of the stress response and overcome barriers to communication with your young person.

  • Learn practical skills in communicating effectively

  • Identify frequent mistakes that get in the road of effective listening

  • Discover strategies to facilitate connection and create opportunities for conversation

About the presenter:

Helen Jarvis is the Chair of KYDS Youth Development Service, teacher of the Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution at the College of Law, a nationally accredited mediator, and co-founder & director of Reboot Resolve. She has spent the past ten years helping families in dispute resolution.

Loud & Clear:

This webinar is one of a series run as part of KYDS Youth Development Service's "Loud & Clear" fundraiser. We are aiming to raise $75,000 in order to employ a full-time counsellor and continue to offer free and confidential counselling to young people and families in the area.

Every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Bendigo Bank up to $37,500. If we hit our target, we will dramatically reduce our wait times, offer up to 900 sessions over the next year, and allow up to an additional 50 young people & families to access our services.
