CivicTechWR Hacknight and Guest Speaker (Elder Wanda Wilson)
CivicTechWR is a community group that brings together people from different sectors and backgrounds to actively solve civic challenges in our local community using design and technology.
In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we're honoured to welcome Elder Wanda Wilson, Mohawk of the Turtle Clan, from Six Nations of the Grand River, who will share her talk "Truth and Reconciliation: Learning Through Indigenous Perspectives".
In this talk, Wanda Wilson shares Indigenous perspectives and personal experiences to help participants better understand the history and ongoing work of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Drawing on her cultural knowledge, lived experience, and years of working in Indigenous arts and education, Wanda creates space for honest conversation about Indigenous history, culture, colonialism, and the importance of listening, learning, and building respectful relationships.
The talk encourages participants to consider what Truth and Reconciliation means beyond learning about the past, and how individuals and communities can contribute to meaningful reconciliation today.
People of all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome to participate! We meet every Wednesday from 6 PM- 8 PM at Builders Club.
