About Event

Cyber security can feel overwhelming — especially for small charities balancing limited time, resources and competing priorities. But protecting your organisation doesn’t have to mean becoming a technical expert.

This practical, in-person workshop will help charities understand the risks they face, experience common cyber challenges first-hand, and leave with clear, achievable actions they can take to strengthen their security.

Through an immersive, team-based experience, participants will work through realistic cyber scenarios designed around the types of situations charities encounter every day — from social engineering and phishing attempts to protecting systems, data and access.

With facilitators and cyber mentors supporting the session, you’ll explore what happened, why it matters, and what steps your organisation can take next.

The workshop will use the Cyber Essentials Plus framework as a practical foundation, helping charities connect the challenges they experience to recognised approaches for improving cyber resilience.

We'll explore:

  • The common cyber risks charities face and why they matter.

  • How attackers exploit human behaviour and everyday processes.

  • Practical ways to strengthen your organisation’s security.

  • How to think about devices, systems, data and access.

  • Where to focus your efforts first when resources are limited.

  • How Cyber Essentials Plus can support your cyber journey.

You'll leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of real-world cyber risks.

  • Practical actions you can take immediately.

  • Increased confidence in discussing cyber security internally.

  • A better understanding of how recognised frameworks can support your organisation.

  • Connections with other charities facing similar challenges.

Ideal for: Charity leaders, trustees, operations teams, digital leads, staff responsible for systems or data, and anyone who wants to improve their organisation’s cyber resilience.

This session is designed to be practical, collaborative and accessible — helping charities move from feeling uncertain about cyber security to knowing what to do next.
