From 90% Stress to 90% Mindfulness: Building Resilience While Growing Your Startup
Steve Jobs practiced Zen Buddhism.
Yuval Noah Harari argues that mindfulness is critical in the AI age.
In this session, Maria Ma, Ph.D. will explore how principles from Tao, mindfulness, flow state, and the concept of "no self, no label" can help founders navigate uncertainty, reduce stress, and build resilience throughout the entrepreneurial journey. Drawing on both her experience working with the biotech startup ecosystem and her personal mindfulness practice, she will share practical perspectives on staying grounded, making clearer decisions, and leading with purpose.
Whether you're a founder, scientist, student, investor, or simply curious about the mindset behind resilient entrepreneurship, you'll leave with actionable insights for thriving in the fast-paced world of innovation.
About the Speaker:
Maria Ma, Ph.D. is a passionate startup advocate who believes that no great idea should go unseen. She is driven by a mission larger than herself: helping technical founders transform scientific innovation into real-world impact. Outside of her professional role at Twist Bioscience, Maria provides pro bono commercial strategy and business development guidance to early-stage biotech startups, helping founders build partnerships, earn trust, and bring breakthrough ideas to life. Her approach is deeply influenced by the Daoist principle of "no self"—serving others selflessly while focusing on helping others succeed.
