About Event

Electric trolleys were the main public transportation in San Jose between 1880 and 1938. Nearly 130 miles of streetcars and interurban tracks crisscrossed the South Bay. Route connected San Jose to the then-outlying towns of Santa Clara, Monta Vista, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Alum Rock, Saratoga, Berryessa, and Palo Alto.

To get a glimpse of this history, come to History Park (operated by History San José) on September 21st for a free ride on a restored electric streetcar.

After your ride, History Park is home to 30+ original and replica historical structures, including the Rod Diridon Sr. Trolley Barn. Friendly docents will be onsite to share the Trolley Barn with you and show off additional gems of Santa Clara County transportation history including a horse drawn streetcar, more electric trolleys, and a steam locomotive.

In celebration of transit month, a 10% discount will be offered to anyone who shows their Clipper Card to Gift Shop staff on the 21st.
