From Commitments to Action: Implementing NDC 3.0 and Building Mountain Resilience in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia
Mountains cover approximately 27% of the Earth’s land surface and underpin water, food, and energy security for more than 1.1 billion people directly, as well as billions living downstream. Accelerated cryosphere loss, glacier retreat, permafrost degradation, and compounding climate-induced hazards place mountainous developing countries on the frontline of climate vulnerability. Across Central Asia, where the Tien Shan and Pamir glacial systems feed the region's transboundary basins, resilience in mountain areas is foundational to cross-sectoral water and resource stability.
In this session, amongst other esteemed speakers, Prof Bart van den Hurk will be doing a scientific presentation titled 'IPCC AR6 Assessment Findings: Regional Projections and Climate Vulnerability in Central Asia"
