Connecting To Self: Guided Drawing Meditation Workshop

Join multidisciplinary artist Navrioska “Navrix” Mateo Mejía for Connecting To Self, an one-hour outdoor guided drawing meditation inviting participants to slow down, connect with nature, and reconnect with their inner selves.

Through breathing, mindful listening, grounding exercises, and intentional drawing movements, participants will explore drawing as a form of meditation. You’ll be invited to notice the sounds and sensations around you as you create patterns through repetitive, intuitive movements.

Participants are welcome to bring their preferred drawing materials and a blanket to sit on the grass. Drawing supplies will also be available.

No prior art experience is needed. Participants should be comfortable drawing and spending portions of the session in silence.

You’ll leave with a renewed sense of connection to yourself and your surroundings, and a new perspective on how drawing can become a simple and meaningful part of your meditation practice.

About the Artist in Residence

Navrioska “Navrix” Mateo Mejía is a multidisciplinary artist from La Vega, Dominican Republic, based in New York. Her work explores identity, culture, memory, and connection, often bringing together different mediums and inviting people to experience art rather than simply look at it.

During her artist residency with New Women New Yorkers (NWNY) at Governors Island, Navrix is developing Taína Viva, a new body of work rooted in ancestral memory and spirituality.

Through mixed media, sound, and movement, Taína Viva explores immigration, identity, healing, and the possibility of carrying ancestral knowledge forward while creating new forms of collective belonging.

Connecting To Self is part of this exploration. Through drawing, breath, sound, and movement, Navrix invites participants to slow down, turn inward, and explore drawing as a way of connecting with themselves and the world around them.
