Commonplace.NYC Presents: Speed Book Clubbing in Prospect Park
How do you find the right information and the right people at the right time?
Come join Commonplace.NYC for an evening of discussion about books.
We'll start with a 15 minute lecture about the ways reading can improve your life.
Then we will break into 30 minutes of book club “speed dating”. These speed dates are NOT romantic (unless you’re into romance books I guess), and are instead utilizing the popular speed dating format to make sure everyone speaks to everyone else to help you find people with overlapping reading interests to form book clubs with. Here are two examples of real book clubs from Commonplace.NYC:
A Pure Invention: How Japan Made the Modern World focused book club. We will meet at Brooklyn Museum's Art of Manga Exhibit and will also watch (some of) the first season of One Piece together (meeting biweekly on Zoom.
One Piece Watch Party on Zoom: Every other Monday, Oct 5–Nov 20 · 7:00 PM–9:00 PM EDT
Brooklyn Museum: Art of Manga Exhibit: Thursday, Nov 5 · 12:00 PM–3:00 PM EST
An Orality and Literacy focused book club. We will take a look at modern verbal storytelling as it exists in spoken word poetry.
Nyuorican Bowery Slam: Monday, Sep 28 · 6:00 PM–9:00 PM EDT
You will leave with a few new book club group chats, money back guaranteed (the event is free)!
