About Event

The Congo Basin is the world's second-largest tropical rainforest and one of the planet's most important remaining carbon sinks. Global attention on the Basin is building fast, from the Belém Call to Action to the run-up to COP31. Meeting the moment depends on the Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and smallholders who make the daily land-use decisions that determine forest outcomes and on financing instruments built to reach them credibly, directly, and durably.

The Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) provides such a model, rewarding stewardship through technology-enabled, transparent, and verified processes, and coordinated investments to achieve the highest combined climate and development returns.

Join us for a working conversation on what it takes to move real, lasting capital into standing forests.

The session will bring together US-based climate and environment foundations, donor governments, and Congo Basin partner-country representatives to get feedback on CAFI's strategy.

The objective is to expand partnerships and advance the conversation on shared priorities and open questions to build momentum for increasing investments in the Congo Basin.

The session will take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to go through security, and everyone is welcome to stay after the event for a light lunch.

Speakers:

  • Maurice Ntossui Allogo, Minister of Water, Forest and Environment, Gabon.

  • Benjamin Skolnik, Program Officer, Environment, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies

  • Ingrid Tungen, Head of Deforestation-free Markets, Rainforest Foundation Norway

  • Berta Pesti, Head of CAFI Secretariat
