Strengthening integrated fire management strategies with fire modeling literacy (Technical roundtable)
How can better understanding and use of fire modelling improve the decisions made before, during, and after wildfires?
This technical roundtable will bring together policymakers, scientists, practitioners, industry, and civil society to explore how fire modelling, data, and risk information can complement integrated fire management and support more effective wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and long-term resilience.
Building on recent regional work, the discussion will identify key information gaps, drawing on lessons from different initiatives. Participants will explore what policymakers and other non-technical decision-makers need to understand about fire models, including their capabilities, limitations, uncertainty, and appropriate uses.
The conversation will also identify opportunities for collaboration, capacity building, and practical applications, helping inform the Global Wildfire Collective’s Fire Modelling Literacy Program and the planned EDF–GWC policymaker training program.
