“The Road Beyond Maps” Vernissage
Memory is not a record. It is a landscape we continually remake.
Denis Sarazhin’s new paintings emerge from the space between remembering and imagining. Working without photographic or other visual references, he builds images from fragments — things seen, things remembered, things invented, and things that may never have existed at all.
A remembered place shifts. A figure becomes part of a landscape. An imagined form acquires the weight of something real.
Here, imagination is not an escape from reality but a fundamental human capacity — a way of seeing beyond what is present, giving shape to what is absent, and imagining what does not yet exist.
The Road Beyond Maps follows this space between memory and invention, where recognition is never complete and the image remains open.
There is no fixed destination. Only the image, continually becoming.
