Deer Hide Drum Workshop
Come spend an afternoon, crafting a traditional 16” deer hide frame drum. This is a chance to slow down and connect with one of the oldest instrument-making traditions, working with beautiful natural materials: soft deer hide, a hand-bent wood hoop, and traditional lacing.
We’ll begin together in a circle, taking a quiet moment honoring the spirit of the deer and to set an intention with some ceremonial cacao for the drum you’re about to make.
From there, you will be guided you through the whole process: stretching and fitting the hide, learning the cross-lacing pattern that gives the drum its voice, tensioning it just right, and understanding how the hide settles and tightens as it dries. Along the way, we’ll share stories about the history and spirit of frame drums, and how to care for yours for years to come.
We’ll close our time together with a simple blessing, honoring the deer, honoring you as the maker, and sending each drum off with the sound it’s meant to carry into the world.
No experience needed here, just an open heart and a little patience. You’ll leave with a finished, playable 16” drum made by you and mallet.

• No-shows on the day of: Non-refundable; your kit will be ready for you to pick up if you’d like it after.
