Carbon Removal Readiness Assessments: a tool to jumpstart planning at country level
How much carbon could your country realistically remove from the atmosphere?
Most countries have committed to net zero which means they have a tacit Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) need. But they don’t have a solid answer to this question.
Beyond net zero, it is now clear that the world needs to deploy CDR at scale to achieve net negative global emissions. The Paris Agreement has also offers a framework (art.6) for countries to trade mitigation outcomes creating opportunities for countries with high CDR potential.
Carbon Gap has conducted the Carbon Removal Readiness Assessments (CRRA) to reveal the realistic CDR potential and inform the national policy making process with reliable data in eight countries. But we need more countries to document their realistic CDR potential. Carbon Gap releases the methodology and a complete toolkit to enable every country to figure out their CDR potential and what they need to do to deploy it.
This is a briefing session to introduce the toolkit, showcase examples of CRRA reports and bring participants up to speed on the CRRA methodology.
