SOLASTALGIA - an evening towards Possibility | Art Exhibition | Opening & Live Soundscape Performance
Change. The passage of time. Shifting homelands, city life, ecologies - whether through growth or destruction, change often leaves a space behind, and we come to name it "grief". What if we sat mindfully with this space, and felt it instead as a realm of possibility?
Globalisation, digital lifestyles and migration patterns into innercity lives have left many of us disconnected from the direct relationship with the land relatives and ancestors had. Nature has instead become a place of leisure and respite. Come and unwind with us for an evening of art, discussion and a live soundscape that unites these experiences.
Artist Evelyn Gracie presents two rooms of unseen works, reconnecting digitalised city life with that of her ancestors, islanders from the subartic archipelaego of Shetland. The work questions if we could again learn to view ourselves as having a relationship with the environment - not in a naïve sense that we can all return to crofting - instead using the perspective of the past to generate new understandings for our future.
A palette of prussian blues permeate the works, using the sea as a metaphor for uncovered histories, reflection, and stillness beneath the surface.
At 7pm, icelandic composer Haukur Thor Hardarson will perform an immersive soundscape to complement the exhibition.
Bar and light refreshments available at the venue. Come and mingle, meet the artist and absorb an atmosphere of sonic delights.
