Hybrid Choreographies: A Creative Motion Capture Showcase
Hey everyone!
For next week’s Open Lab, we're doing something special. With motion capture technology company Qualisys and the dance company of Gilles Jobin, we're gathering at Gray Area for a motion capture performance laboratory, combining real-time movement tracking with 3D simulation to produce hybrid dance pieces. Kinetech Arts will join artist Delta_Ark for a micro-residency focused on developing a piece integrating motion capture, movement, and real-time simulation.
Join us on Wednesday, March 19 at 7pm for a special showcase event featuring performances-in-progress by Delta_Ark and Kinetech artists, Gilles Jobin's company, and Los Angeles-based hybrid performance artist Zelia ZZ Tan. Stick around after the performance to chat with the artists and learn more about the creative possibilities of motion capture and 3D worldbuilding. RSVP here! Tickets are sliding scale $0-$30.
If you want to dive deeper into real-time motion capture and digital performance, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival and Gilles Jobin are hosting a 3-day workshop at UC Berkeley at the end of March. Find more information here.
NB: there will be no Open Labs for the next two weeks, and we'll return to our regular weekly cadence on April 2nd. Enjoy the show at Gray Area and a week of rest!
