About Event

The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) provides a foundation for justice, sustainability, and self-determination. It affirms the inherent rights of Indigenous Peoples and offers a framework for communities to guide development in ways that honour culture, protect the land, and strengthen governance for generations to come.

Across many Nations, UNDRIP is being used to shape decisions about lands, waters, and resources and to support community-led development. It encourages approaches that are grounded in rights, respect, and shared responsibility, ensuring that projects are designed in collaboration with communities and guided by their priorities.

This session will feature Tyler Sack, Director of Aquatic Resources & Fisheries Management with The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq. Drawing on his background in sociology and research on cultural authenticity, he will share practical insights on aligning project practices with community priorities while centering Indigenous voices.

This is an opportunity for leaders, project teams, and Nation-builders to put rights-based principles into practice and create meaningful, lasting impact.
