​An original viola concert shaped through butoh dance

​The Elegant Wanderer is a timeless witness, wandering through memories, places, and moments beyond time. Like butoh, the Wanderer’s journey unfolds without seeking a destination, carrying only the traces of life. Through movement and the voice of the viola, she shares what she has witnessed: life and death, longing and belonging, joy and sorrow, stillness and transformation.

​Butoh is a Japanese contemporary movement art rooted in transformation, impermanence, and deep presence. Inspired by its philosophy and practice, violist and butoh practitioner Heri Shin has developed a unique artistic language where body, movement, and sound become inseparable. Rather than movement accompanying music, they arise from the same body and memory, breathing together.

​This concert presents Heri’s original compositions for viola, each created through her butoh practice. Music and movement unfold as one continuous expression, inviting the audience into a shared space of listening, presence, and transformation.
