About Event

A woman outside of time, a landscape outside of history is a lecture performance by the artist-researcher Krasimira Butseva.

The lecture performance travels through missing photographs, erased records, and landscapes that continue to carry the traces of political violence. It binds together her work spanning state and vernacular archives, oral histories and former forced labour camp sites in Bulgaria. Shifting through archival material, images, texts and sounds, the performance lecture reflects on fragments of women within history: within the socialist and post-socialist Bulgarian landscape.

The lecture performance will take place at the University of Copenhagen, South Campus (Søndre Campus), Emil Holms Kanal 6, 2300 København S, Auditorium 23.0.49 - Building 23, ground floor, room 49. The event is free and open to the public (you don't need to be associated with the university to attend).

About the artist:

Krasimira Butseva is an artist-researcher, currently an artist-in-residence at the Centre for Culture and the Mind, University of Copenhagen. She is a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. In 2024, together with Julian Chehirian and Lilia Topouzova, she represented Bulgaria at the 60th Venice Biennale with The Neighbours. She is also a co-founder of Revolv Collective and curator of the History in Between digital archive and programme.

About the centre:

The Centre for Culture and the Mind explores how the human mind and common humanity have been imagined in different cultural, socio-political and disciplinary contexts, examining the assumptions and forces which shaped such definitions.
