About Event

7 years. 6 product categories. 3 continents. A lot of failures.

This masterclass is everything I've learned about designing and building real products with mycelium. Condensed into 2.5 hours of honest, practical knowledge.

I'm Andy Cartier, founder of Studio Cartier and NUMU (mycelium materials, Dubai), co-founder of UFO (mycelium skateboards, US). I hold a patent-pending mycelium material platform and lecture at Heriot-Watt University, DIDI, American University of Sharjah, KU Leuven, De Montfort University and many more. My work has been covered by Dezeen, Wallpaper, The National, and Design Anthology.

This is not a mushroom growing workshop. This is a design and engineering masterclass.

WHAT WE'LL COVER

The traps that kill 90% of mycelium projects. Wrong substrates, wrong species, scaling too early, designing for plastic logic instead of biology. Real stories, real consequences, how to avoid them.

Designing real products with mycelium. The main event. Product development with a living material. Mould strategy. Post-processing. Four real cases — KOZ, UFO, C-biotech, NUMU acoustic — what failed first, what I changed.

Material properties — only data I measured myself. Density, compressive strength, thermal, drying shrinkage. What the published numbers don't tell you. The honest gaps.

From prototype to production. Lab vs. pilot vs. factory. Mould vs. no-mould vs. modular. Equipment, cost structures, climate as a variable, certification routes, IP strategy.

The industrial reality nobody else tells you. In-house vs. SMS. Why plastic always looks cheaper. The pilot trap. Where MycoWorks and Ecovative actually went. Where the money flows in 2026.

Q&A interleaved throughout. 12 seats means real conversation, not a lecture.
