Climate Chronicles: Stories from a Changing World
A storytelling workshop for everyone. Our season finale on Governors Island.
Full Description:
NWNY invites you to the season finale of our time on Governors Island! Join us for a playful, hands-on storytelling workshop where you’ll learn how to turn a real memory into a story people feel, remember and want to hear again.
Why climate? Because facts alone rarely move people, but stories do. And Governors Island, one of New York’s growing hubs for climate solutions, is the perfect place to share them.
In one afternoon, you will:
Learn simple storytelling tools you can use for life: how to open with a strong hook, add sensory details that pull people in, and shape your story with a clear beginning, build-up, turning point and resolution
Write your own first story in a calm, supportive space
Connect with neighbors and new friends through partner sharing and kind, constructive feedback
Close the day together with a group activity that celebrates every voice in the room
This event is free and open to all. No background in climate or storytelling required, just curiosity and an open heart.
Bring the whole family! While adults write, kids will have their own fun activity nearby. Our event falls on Halloween, so for those who celebrate, there will be candy, and costumes are welcome. There’s no need to dress up or take part in anything you’d rather skip. Everyone is welcome either way.

A Day on Governors Island
There will be many other artist residency spaces and events happening throughout the island, and we encourage you to explore and visit other spaces as part of your day.
We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, as there are water refill stations throughout the island.
There are restaurants and food vendors on Governors Island, as well as beautiful green areas perfect for walking, relaxing, or having a picnic. You are also welcome to bring your own food or snacks if you prefer.
