Their innovations range from digital twins that can simulate floods and evacuation procedures to advanced building materials and technologies that keep facilities operational during power outages and hurricane-force winds.

Presenting ventures
Enersion, with headquarters in Scarborough, develops heating and cooling systems powered by water, solar thermal collectors and industrial waste heat from HVAC units and data centres. This alternative to traditional heat pumps, which require large amounts of electricity and synthetic refrigerants, reduces emissions and operating costs, while improving a building’s resilience during extreme weather events.
Toronto-based NOAH Intelligence creates hyper-detailed digital twins of cities to simulate severe storms and floods.Its platform predicts water movement, pinpoints flood zones, estimates property damage costs and recommends infrastructure upgrades to help communities prepare for the real thing.
RUNWITHIT Synthetics, a woman-led and Indigenous-run company based in Edmonton, uses real-time data to help communities better prepare for and respond to disasters. Rather than relying on historical trends, RWI’s platform syncs up live demographic, land-use, transit and health data to model evacuation routes, hospital bottlenecks and where storm and wildfire damage will hit hardest.
Calgary’s ZS2 Technologies uses captured carbon dioxide from concrete plants, steel mills and energy facilities to develop high-performance concrete products. By using mineralized CO2 in its manufacturing process, ZS2 creates a concrete alternative that is stronger, lighter and in some cases carbon-negative — helping buildings resist extreme weather and withstand Category 5 hurricanes.
