Craft-a-Gift: Balkan Embroidered Bookmark
What do you give someone who has everything? Something handmade. There’s no better gift than one from the heart.
TUKA Creative Club is Berlin’s playful space for grown-ups to reconnect with creativity, community, and calm.
Our Craft-a-Gift series turns cozy evenings into meaningful handmade presents for the holidays. Simple projects, gentle guidance, and a warm community of people who let themselves be kids again.
2) What we’ll do:
We’ll embroider Balkan-inspired bookmarks on Aida (cross-stitch fabric) using one stitch only: the cross stitch.
You’ll choose from three elements common in Balkan folklore:
THE STAR — Heaven’s lantern; divine direction and spiritual protection
THE DIAMOND — Balance of opposites: sun & moon, feminine & masculine
THE EYE — Wards off envy; brings intuition and wisdom
We’ll follow a mini zine, step-by-step cross-stitch tutorial. Learn something new and complete one bookmark to gift to yourself or a loved one.
We’ll sip tea and have snacks while we stitch.
Context & inspiration:
In villages and towns across the Balkans, embroidery marked important moments: births, weddings, rites of passage. Clothes and home textiles were hand-stitched with care, carrying protection, identity, and wishes for a good luck.
3) Our goal:
Leave perfectionism at the door. We aim for calm focus, joyful experimentation, and connection. You will learn the cross stitch, practice mindful making, and finish a heartfelt keepsake.

Language: English & German
Level: Total-beginner friendly (no experience needed)
Price: Pay-what-you-can (recommended €10–15) to help cover materials and space rent.
Please only register if you’re confident you can attend; if plans change, cancel at least 24h before so someone else can join.
We provide: Aida bookmark fabric, embroidery floss, needles, water-soluble pens, scissors, mini zine tutorial & pattern + Tea and snacks.
Bring (optional): your favorite color palette or initials/date to stitch.

We’ll take photos and short videos during the workshop to share TUKA Creative Club’s work on our website and social channels. By registering, you agree that these images may be used for commercial/promotional purposes by TUKA Creative Club.
