Picaro! with Alex
This is an RPG Fest event; we'll be playing an in-person tabletop roleplaying game with a small group. The game will be hosted in Western Queens. Come prepared to roleplay!
The Town Musicians of Bremen
"Why are you panting so, Packan?" asked the donkey.
"Oh," said the dog, "because I am old and am getting weaker every day and can no longer go hunting, my master wanted to kill me, so I ran off; but now how should I earn my bread?"
"Do you know what," said the donkey, "I am going to Bremen and am going to become a town musician there. Come along and take up music too. I'll play the lute, and you can beat the drums."
The year is 1700 and you are a motley collection of barnyard animals. Not just any barnyard animals; you’re the Town Musicians Of Bremen. Or at least, you will be.
For your whole lives you’ve faithfully served your human masters, through all of their tasks and their various cruelties. Now you are either too old, too weak, or too tasty to keep around.
Well you’ve suffered your last indignity. Bremen is a city of freedom and rights, where any man can make his mark. You’re going to go there and play your music and the crowds will cheer and you will live out your days in blessed comfort.
If only someone, anyone, could tell you how to get there.

PICARO! is the new early modern fantasy game using the Grit System. You play professional picaros (rogues, scallywags, malingerers—you know the sort) who are striving to exit the shadows of an oppressive social system (& indulge in all manner of diverse misadventures & line their purses along the way).
In this adventure, your picaros are members of the real underclass: domesticated animals. This adventure is an adaption of Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten, a Grimm folk tale from the 1700s. Illustration by Joe Boddy.
