Home-cooked Software Meetup
Lots of software we use these days feels like a fast-food restaurant: made by huge multinational corporations, designed to appeal to anyone, optimized for quick dopamine hits.
It's easy to fall into the mindset that something’s not worth doing unless it can be a huge business. Will it scale? Will it monetize?
It doesn't have to be that way — software can be a home-cooked meal, shared with only friends and family. It can be an art, a gift for the people we love. What kind of software feels like having friends over for some nice soup?
Inspired by Robin Sloan’s essay and Maggie Appleton's follow-up on the subject, we're hosting a night of talks and demos about home-cooked software.
Have a project you’d like to share? Come give a demo of it! We’re looking for projects that are…
Situated: you know each user personally
Tailored: tries to exactly meet the needs of a few people
A gift: made out of a spirit of care rather than commerce
We'll be hanging out at the lovely 1RG space and will have food, snacks, and drinks available!
